| Please
follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your Windows OS
to properly install the reader and driver. The following generic procedure is only meant to assist you in the
installation process, and will work for most readers but is
not guaranteed. The
Troubleshooting Tips are meant to help you in case the reader
does not work properly after installation. |
1.
|
After
booting up the PC, log on to Windows as a user
(with Administrator privilege on Win NT/2000/XP). |
2.
|
Connect
the Smart Card Reader to the computer. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. (For example, to connect most serial readers,
the computer must be powered down; otherwise the serial reader
can be damaged. After
connecting the reader to the computer, power up the computer.) Unless
the manufacturer recommends otherwise, USB readers and PCMCIA
readers can be connected to the computer with the power on. |
3.
|
Windows
will automatically detect new hardware (the SmartCard reader)
and start a wizard to help install the driver. If Windows does not detect the reader hardware,
verify the connection from the reader to the computer. |
